Pee wee Herman Show on Broadway
The Pee-wee Herman Show is a musical stage play created by Paul Reubens in 1980. The show debuted at the Groundlings theater in LA on February 1981, and was later moved to The Roxy Theatre where the cable network, HBO, taped one of the Pee-wee Herman Show and aired it that year as their special segment. This tv special was released in July 2006 on DVD.
The stage show started when Paul Reubens, the character who plays Pee-wee Herman, auditioned in 1980 to be a regular on Saturday Night Live. He lost to Gilbert Gottfried. That’s when he came up with the idea of creating a stage show featuring the character he played back in 1977. That same year, Pee-wee Herman made his first appearance to a national audience when he appeared in Cheech & Chong's Next Movie. With some help from his friends, Reubens created the Pee wee Herman Show.
